There are a lot of causes for vomiting in cats. Some are very obvious like if a cat eats too much in a short period of time, or if the cat eats something toxic, if it’s an indoor cat this could be leaves of a house plant, this could also cause it to vomit the toxic material back up.

Despite the relatively harmless nature of the cats vomit above there are also much more serious causes of cats throwing up.  One of these more serious causes is an infectious stomach problem.  These are usually easily transmittable between cats.  Being constipated also has been known to cause cats to throw up, if the cat can’t poop but keeps eating eventually it needs to get rid of the waste in its body and throwing up sometimes is the best way for it to do that.

It is important to remember that before you try to treat the cats throwing up problem you need to first determine what the cause of the problem is.  Cats also vomit from liver disease, tumors, irritable bowel disease, and allergies.  So it is important to keep an eye on your cat and if he or she is vomiting on a fairly regular basis bring them in to the vet and have them determine what is causing the throw up.  Luckily for almost all causes for vomiting cats there is an easy and fairly cheap solution, so while it’s not the end of the world if your cat is vomiting it is important to get them help as soon as possible.

Cats vomit for a near plethora of different reasons, so do not try to treat them yourself as the remedies for each of the different causes varies widely.  The best thing you can do for a vomiting cat is get it to a comfortable place and bring them to the vet when you can.
