Cats are usually quiet creatures when they are left alone, but at times they are quite vocal and let you know that they are around. They might hiss, growl or scream because of anxiety caused by being scared or because they feel threatened in some way. At other times they simply purr and meow. Some cats might meow excessively and you or your neighbors want to stop the cat from meowing.
Cats can meow for a variety of reasons. He may be meowing to get some attention from you, which can be adorable and cute. If walking on your newspaper, or other material that you are trying to read, or walking on your computer doesn’t get you to pay attention to them, your cat may start meowing to let you know that they need attention. They may also rub against your legs or jump into your lap in order to get your attention.

If you are trying to sleep the excessive meowing can be quite disturbing. The cat may meow excessively because you shut him out of your bedroom and he wants in. He is trying to get your attention and ignoring him is the best thing to do. Ignoring him will be difficult with all that meowing, but it is a necessary step to get him to stop. You may need to purchase a good set of ear plugs to block out the excessive meowing in order to get some sleep. Your cat will stop eventually, when he learns that he is not going to be rewarded and allowed into the room. This may take a couple of days before the meowing stops. He is trying to get attention from you so be sure and give him plenty of attention in the morning after you wake up.
If ignoring him doesn’t work, there are other things that you can try. You can try keeping him busy during the day, especially in the evening, by playing with him and keeping him active. This will make him tired so that he sleeps when you sleep. You can also try squirting him with water under the door each time he meows. Cats usually don’t like this and will stop meowing at the door. Loud noises that he finds unpleasant can also be used when the cat is meowing when you don’t want him to. Some cats, however, are just naturally vocal and there isn’t much that can be done about it.
